The UI Art, Sound Design, and Writing of It's About Thyme
Hey, I'm Ethan and I was in charge of UI Art and Design, Sound Design, and Writing for It's About Thyme!
I put a lot of focus on making the UI for the game capture the vibe we were going for; I wanted it to capture the bold, rebellious nature of being a thief, so while creating all of it in Photoshop, I gave it bright colors and lots of dynamic, irregular shapes, taking inspiration from games like Jet Set Radio and Persona 5.
I also took care of the game's sound design; I compiled sounds from freesound.org and the Final Cut Pro sound library to try and find music and sound effects that would be energizing and really bring you into the action. I picked out lots of satisfying whooshes and jingles to match the vibe of the game. I also recorded some sounds myself around my apartment, but unfortunately, we didn't quite have time to implement all of those initially.
The last major role I had was in the game's writing. I wrote all of the dialogue for the voice talking to you over the communicator and gave it a fun, casual tone to continue matching with the feel of the game.
